Adult Access General Studies in Childcare & Youth Work

Participants on the Adult Access General Learning course will receive interesting, practical and relevant knowledge that could be applied in a Childcare, Special Needs Assisting or Youthwork environment. Course content includes:

  • Child Development & Play
  • Childcare & Safety
  • Workplace Safety
  • Work Experience
  • Functional Maths
  • Communications
  • Personal Effectiveness
  • Computer Applications

Electives (Level 5) –

  • Community Arts Practice
  • Intellectual Disability Studies
  • Family Studies

English as a Second Language (Level 4)

Qualifications & Progression

This course offers a practical and theoretical introduction to the world of childcare, youthwork, special needs assisting. Using it as a stepping stone for Further Education studies in Year 2, graduates could become Childcare Professionals, Youth Workers, Special Needs Assistants among others.


It will also set our Graduates up with an excellent knowledge base for Year Two when they will select their next direction of study for a QQI Level 5 qualification in one of the following areas within WCFE:

  • Early Childhood Care & Education
  • Special Needs Assistant
  • Applied Social Studies
  • Applied Psychology
