Courses Description
Photographic imaging is now more exciting than ever before. – FACT
Changes in technology have transformed mobile phones into cameras and computers and iPads into powerful communication tools. -FACT
21st Century Photographers who wish to develop a successful career in image making need a very different set of skills from what was needed in the last century. – FACT
The Photography & Digital Media course at WCFE can help you develop the skills needed to approach photographic imaging in a broad and professional manner. – FACT
This practical year long programme introduces students to the technical and creative aspects of photography. Students learn a range of skills, from studio lighting, digital photography, and image manipulation using Adobe Photoshop, to traditional black and white darkroom skills.
Furthermore, our expert photography staff is available to advise the student on photosharing websites such as Flickr or creating a personal website. This course will suit students who are interested in a career in commercial photography, creating a portfolio for third level or as a photographic artist.
Having successfully achieved the QQI Level 5 award, students may continue studying at WCFE under the optional second year Art &
Photography, QQI Level 6 course.
Minimum Entry Requirements
- Successful completion of Leaving Certificate/Leaving Certificate Applied or equivalent.
- Successful completion of interview.
- Applicants are also requested to present samples of their photography at interview.
Progression
The full QQI Level 5 Certificate facilitates entry, on a competitive basis, to a range of third-level institutions nationwide.
The full QQI Level 5 Photography Certificate will also qualify for entry to the to WCFEs Level 6 Advanced Certificate in Photography.

Work Experience
Work experience placement is an integral part of this course. Students must obtain one day per week work experience for the academic year. The day will be specified by the College.
