Course Description

This course is suitable for those who have an interest in the area of Child /Adolescent Psychology, specifically Psychotherapy and counselling skills. The course is a non-certified course and does not offer a qualification in the area. Rather it is designed to offer the participant an insight into the area of counselling children and adolescents and looking at some of the approaches and techniques used by psychotherapists today.

Course Content

  • Understanding Confidentiality when working with children and adolescents
  • Children and Adolescents – ages and stages
  • Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE’s) and their potential impact on the child/adolescent
  • Differences between Counselling young people and adults
  • Typical issues children and adolescents present to Therapy with and identifying the complexities of the issues
  • Difficult times – some of the physical symptoms and some of the challenging behaviours to be aware of
  • Counselling Skills with a Child/Adolescent
  • Creative Therapies for working with children and adolescents – art, storytelling, music, sand etc
  • Typical complications that arise in child/adolescent therapy and how to overcome them
  • Review of past nine weeks
