The aim of this course is to enable participants to understand the fundamentals of management. It will help them identify and develop their skills to ensure a best practice approach. It will provide participants with a point of reference on which their own practice can be gauged. Participants will build on their own experience and the course will serve to inform their future practice as managers.

This course is aimed at existing/newly appointed/aspiring managers who wish to gain a better understanding of the role and skills required to be an effective manager.

• Outline the development of management theory, demonstrating the practical application to their current/future practice.
• Identify and examine their management style.
• Effectively communicate with others.
• Identify and demonstrate an understanding of the characteristics necessary for effective management.
• Identify the best approach to appraisals.
• Identify the best approach to grievance and disciplinary action.
