This module will equip the learner to understand the basic principles of infection and the application of standard precautions in relation to infection control. The learner will understand the importance of infection prevention and control in the healthcare area, in providing a healthy environment for patients, staff and visitors
A knowledge of micro organisms, the elements required for the growth, spread and subsequent infection process, to include direct and indirect contact, knowledge of the chain of infection and the need for vigilance and safe practice always This module may be completed as a standalone component or as part of a suite of four modules comprising Care Skills, Care Support, Palliative Care and Infection Prevention and Control. This suite of 4 courses runs for the academic year.
