Description
The course offers an academic and practical immersion in performance arts, with a heavy emphasis on exploring the student’s own creative expression and artistic experimentation. This exciting course will offer students unique training in theatre and event management and is the only course of its kind in the Southeast.
Students will be involved in all aspects of theatre, from acting, to performance, to make- up, to planning and staging an event. Students will deep- dive into the history of theatrical tradition and use this learning to create productions of their own. They will also learn about the main acting schools and disciplines and explore their own unique performance ‘voice’. The course is designed to explore and experiment with performance art genres, so that participants can progress confidently towards their goals and gain immense knowledge about their own creative identity, skills, and talents. Graduates are ideally placed to progress onto a broad range of third level courses, or to enter into the industry directly in Ireland or abroad.

Minimum Entry Requirements
- Leaving Certificate/Leaving Certificate Applied or equivalent.
- Successful completion of interview.
Work Experience
Work experience placement is an integral part of this course. Students must obtain one day per week work experience for the academic year. The day will be specified by the College. Students have access to an on-campus sound recording studio and radio production facility as part of their training programme.
Costs
A student services contribution of €50 is payable on registration. The purpose of which is to cover services, materials, and supports including printing, photocopying, library, student cards etc. This is non refundable.
Progression
The full QQI Level 5 Certificate facilitates entry, on a competitive basis, to a range of third level institutions nationwide. Further details are available from the relevant institutions.
Graduates of this course may apply for theatre courses at Lir in TCD, SETU, and music and event management in third level courses nationwide e.g., Cork, Galway, Limerick, UCD
Graduates of this course may apply for the progression course Adv. Cert in Audiovisual Media, available at WCFE, and graduates of this course may apply for the final year of a Media Studies Hons Degree at the University of Sunderland, UK.
Facilities
Students enjoy access to industry level salons for Theatrical Hair and Makeup. Students also spend some of the year rehearsing in professional theatrical spaces and project spaces around Waterford. This course is partnered with the Lir Academy to facilitate workshops and collaboration throughout the year.
