Description

This full-time course is designed to teach students the skills necessary to implement and support PC systems and networks. During the course students will build PCs and troubleshoot hardware issues. They install, optimise and troubleshoot both the Windows and Linux Operating Systems, and setup Local Area Networks.


Course participants will learn about the importance of security within the IT industry while also learning the fundamentals of Software Development and Website Design. This course prepares participants for careers in Computer Systems Maintenance and Technical Support, Software Development and Web Design.


With the experience that our students gain during the course, many graduates go on to work in the IT sector in areas such as technical support or in field service roles. Many graduates continue their studies to obtain degrees in Applied Computing or Information Technology.

Duration

One Year

Minimum Entry Requirements

  • Leaving Certificate/Leaving Certificate Applied or equivalent.
  • Successful completion of interview.
  • Applications from mature students will be considered.

Work Experience

Work experience placement is an integral part of this course. Students must obtain one day per week work experience for the academic year in a computing environment. The day will be specified by the College.

Costs

A student services contribution of €50 is payable on registration. The purpose of which is to cover services, materials, and supports including printing, photocopying, library, student cards etc. This is non refundable.

Progression

The full QQI Level 5 Certificate facilitates entry, on a competitive basis, to a range of third-level institutions nationwide. Further details are available from the relevant institutions.
